It takes donations of money to provide much of the help that the homeless require making their way to self-supporting status. But, there are also many ways in which individuals and churches can donate their time and God-given talents and be a vital part of changing the lives of the homeless. Here are just some of many possibilities:
- Phone interview prospective clients to screen for eligibility; complete question form
- Complete intake form with approved clients, and assess needs, request and record background check
- Counseling, as your practical life experience would allow; spiritual, life skills, budgeting, job skills
- Provide rides to clients as needed
- Help provide meals to clients at partner motel locations
- Help find permanent housing for homeless; work with subsidized housing agencies, negotiate with landlords, etc.
- Adopt a homeless individual or family
- Fund raising for FSBH; creative individual programs, or through church organizations, events
- Provide free legal services (divorce, child support, fines, etc.)
- Provide free doctor, dental, psychologist services
- Follow-up calls/casework to ensure client’s well-being; track fulfillment of goals to self-sufficiency, permanent housing, etc.
